Music Director’s Blog

Aug. 6, 2011 - We are on the cusp of embarking upon our second season together and I do so with great enthusiasm.  I've had a long-standing fascination with American music (both the well-known and the not-so-well known) and we have a concert this season that will feature music of Copland and Ives side-by-side with Arthur Foote and John Knowles Paine.  I really hope that a concert of American music will be an important annual tradition for the orchestra.  Our opening concert of the season focuses on the beautiful artistry of our concert master Casey McGrath who will perform with the orchestra two staples of the violin solo repertoire, and whose contribution will be surrounded by the traditional and much beloved music of Mendelssohn and Brahms.  We also have an orchestral program which features the multi-faceted aspects of dance music for orchestra from the pens of Manuel de Falla, Stravinsky and Grieg.  We plan to conclude the season with our annual "pops" concert much in the manner of the concert we just gave in July.

I am particularly excited about the way in which our new organization will continue to invest in the local community, through youth internships, through young musicians providing support for our orchestra concerts, and by our collaborative efforts with area singers that will continue the astonishing success of our Faure Requiem from this past April.  So please do all you can to alert talented young area orchestral musicians to check out our internships, and contact us if you want to be part of the growing interest in orchestral and choral music in our area.  And, of course, I look forward to seeing you, your family and friends at our concerts this season!

We are a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Your donations are tax deductible.  Please donate today!
